Although I enjoyed watching The Expendables, I feel bad for the movie. Given the cast of the film, it would have been one of the greatest action movies of all time.  Here’s what the movie equation would have looked like…

STALLONE + LI + STATHAM + COUTURE +  WILLIS + SCHWARZENEGGER + More… = AWESOME ACTION FLICK!

Unfortunately, here’s what happened…

STALLONE + LI + STATHAM + COUTURE +  WILLIS + SCHWARZENEGGER + More… = STALLONE x 3

Stallone 1: He was the main character of the movie.  I have nothing against Stallone being the star.  In fact, I have watched most of his movies – Rambo series, Rocky series, The Specialist (Sharon Stone was hot in this movie! Teehee!) to name a few.  Unfortunately, the other main characters – Li and Staham – lacked attention in the film.

Stallone 2: He wrote the script of the movie.  (He wrote it with Jeffrey Kimball, who doesn’t even have a wiki page.) Let’s face it, the action was there but the story was kind of lame.  Ex-CIA torturing the daughter of a General.  The General reacts by just throws a bottle of alcohol on the floor.  Come on!!! If I were the General, I would have ordered my men to kill the ex-CIA and his outnumbered crew in the General’s territory.

Stallone 3: He directed the movie. Too much already!

Recommendations:

• Get/Buy a solid story. The story of the A-team would have been a good enough story to start with.
• Hire a good script writer.  Working with the people behind the Ocean’s series and Italian Job would have produced an excellent script. Witty and everyone gets to say something.
• More fight sequence. The movie lacked the  awesome fight scenes from the Li and Statham’s movies.  Everyone was expecting a MMA fight sequence with Couture.
• Hire another director. John_McTiernan, director of Die Hard, would have been my choice. For starters, he would have hired an excellent cinematographer, who knows how to capture fight sequences, explosions, car chases and the like.  Obviously, the film failed to give justice to these kinds of scenes.
• Too much fire power!  It was a joke!  They were supposedly mercenaries, ex-special forces. The film should have shown some tactics other than just fire power.

Watched the movie last night at Glorietta 4 with my girlfriend, Picci.

But ever wondered why the title used “curious” to describe the case of Benjamin Button? Why not use “weird” or some other adjective?

So I checked the dictionary and found out that the word “curious” has 3 meanings:

1. a archaic : made carefully b obsolete : abstruse carchaic : precisely accurate
2. a: marked by desire to investigate and learn b: marked by inquisitive interest in others’ concerns : nosy
3. : exciting attention as strange, novel, or unexpected : odd <a curious coincidence>

I only knew of the 2nd meaning until i checked recently.  Obviously the movie title intented to use the 3rd meaning. The Strange / Unexpected / Odd Case of Benjamin Button.

…then you should definitely watch the movie. Jack Black (Po, the panda) and Dustin Hofman’s (Kung Fu Master) performances were absolutely hilarious!!! Hahaha! I almost cried laughing last night watching the movie with my girlfriend, Picci, and her sister, Parchy.

It’s very different from the other supposedly funny movies like Superhero Movie, wherein they put ALL of the hilarious / best scenes on their trailers. In Kung Fu Panda’s case, the trailer is really just a “tip of the iceberg.” If you’ve just seen the trailer, wait till you watch the whole movie!

P.S. Make sure to watch till the end credits!

If I’d compare my career to a movie, I’d say I’m taking the director’s role. At this point, you’re probably confused as I am writing this blog. But allow me to explain further. I beg for your patience.As far as I know, there are 2 basic things a movie director does. One, the director puts structure into the producer / film owner’s vision. Two, the directors collaborates with talents (actors and film production people) to create the best movie ever.

In my role as the (Senior) Business Development & Operations Manager for Odyssey Next Edge, I’d like to think that I’m like a movie director, where I’m making the “movie” OdysseyLive.net. Jay, my boss, is the “film” owner and producer. I’m his commissioned director. As the director, I organize and put details to the vision / concept of my boss for Odyssey Next / OdysseyLive.net. Moreover, I also work with various “talents” from music artists to music video directors to band managers to record label owners. Of course I still manage my “production crew” which included my A&R guys, project manager / designer and my developer. If I’m a real director, I’d like my “movie” – OdysseyLive.net – to win best motion picture in the Oscars!

• No Country for Old Men.  It won Best Motion Picture of the Year and Achievement in Direction among other things.
• There Will Be Blood.   Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor and this film got Best Cinematography.  Unfortunately, it’s only being show in Gateway (Cubao).
• The Counterfeiters.  Best Foreign Language film of the year.
• La Vie En Rose.  Marion Cotillard (in A Good Year with Russel Crowe) won Best Actress.  I’ll watch this film just because of her. Hihi.
• Ratatouille.  Best Animated Feature film of the year.  Love this movie!
• Sweeney Todd.  Best Art Direction.  I’ve always wanted to watch this film especially when my friends told me it was a bit gory. Haha! Torrents!!!
• Taxi to the Dark Side. Best documentary.
• Juno. Won Original Screenplay.  Hilarious.  A must watch!  Ellen Page should win an award!!!
