Bora Trip 2008 (May 29): La Carmela Hotel

Posted: June 8th, 2008 | Author: Ben | Filed under: Travel | Tags: , , , | 6 Comments »

Soon as we landed at Caticlan Airport, I was quite worried because I didn’t know how to go to our hotel. Although I was told that someone was gonna pick us up at the airport, Kathleen, my contact at La Carmela was not responding to my text messages.

As we got out of the Airport, there were a couple of men standing right outside the arrival gate. One of the men was wearing a white polo shirt with a La Carmela de Boracay embroidered on his shirt. He was holding a white board with my family name, “ALEGRE” on it. I asked him: “La Carmela?” He politely acknowledged and asked for my family name. I responded with my family name and asked if I was traveling alone. I told him I was with my girlfriend. He let a to a van. I believe it was an old Hi-Ace.

And since there were no other clients on board our flight, George, our driver, decided to drive us to our boat to Boracay.

I thought that other passengers were waiting for us at the boat. To our surprise, we had the boat to ourselves.

Moreover, it was also a very quick boat ride. During the first time I went Bora, I remembered being dropped off the beach in one of the 3 boat stations. This time we were dropped off at a port. I later learned that it was Cagban Port. Locals told me that Cagban Port is now the enforced drop off / pick up point of the island. They said that this was to prevent accidents to people swimming at the beach (mostly at Station 2).

At the port was another van waiting for us. From the port, we rode a van. After 10 minutes…

I went to the front desk and checked in. It was about 11:00am We were welcomed us with a orange juice drink while they were preparing our room. Normally, the check in time is at 2:00pm. Fortunately, our room was already available.

Here’s a glimpse of Room 315…

We had a small balcony and we can see Dos Mestizos spanish cuisine restaurant…

Our room had…

  • two(2) queen size beds
  • towels
  • air-con
  • own toilet
  • own bathroom equipped with hot and cold water
  • ref
  • cable TV (Finally, TV!)

It wasn’t the best hotel room I’ve been in, but it was very decent and clean. NOT bad! I was happy with our room.

first and most, i actually think that it is case to case basis, depending upong the mood of the staff.i just came from there….. for me it was th e worst hotel ive ever been into.much worst from what we have in the province. For me cleanlinness is a must and for them its not.
when we arrive there ,the front desk lady did not even look at us while inquring re: our reservation. when we entered the room it was dirty . the floor was really sticky , i dont know from what maybe sandy.another was it didnt have a hot water.we have to request from the front dexk and it them almost an hour to respond to our request.and when the repairmen arrived it was the heater and of course it took our time. next we have to transfer to another room after waiting 1 n a half hour.and we arrived to the new room it has a distinctive smell like popo .we decided not to complain so as not to make the matters worst, then our heater didnt work.:-( then our aircon didnt workd. it was sooooo hotttt since afternoon rays was on our side.tsk tsk tsk to make matters worst /by the way they dont change the bed sheets after the guest checks out ,they only spray air freshener on the sheets. and tuck in the sides.because under the sheets we found several pubic hairs. if ever we had the chance to have our payments refunded we would have done so.or brought our own bed sheets ……
and also thier staff thinks that we cant understand thier language they talked us while we would pass by. ot was so unethical. my next complaint was there buffet styly lunch they posted 220 for lunch but charged us 240 each as service charge….what!
but they also wrote there no service charge or no addtional fees.
i really hope the owner would do something about his hotel. i hope mr. whoever i really hope youll takecare of your hotel. you may be offering the lowest price but still we paid in full accomodation and privacy should be in full also.by the way your toilet bowl dont flush and unclean also including the walls of the bathroom and curtain has grime and green lumot.isnt it a lot of negative blogs enough evidence?
    gosh ! and thanks

    Hi Ben,

I was wondering what type of room did you guys get (based from your pics)? Was it Superior? Because we booked through a travel agent and gave us superior room but I can’t find any pics of the standard rooms of la carmela. Many thanks.
